At Quadra Dental Centre in Victoria, our dentists perform a variety of oral surgery procedures to treat dental issues and improve your oral health.
What is Oral Surgery?
Diseases, injuries and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth and jaws need to be effectively diagnosed and surgically treated. This is classified as oral surgery.
While we always use the last invasive treatment possible for any given dental issue, in some cases less invasive treatment options would not be sufficient and oral surgery is needed.
Dental implants are small titanium screws that function like natural tooth roots. As part of the process to replace missing teeth and restore your smile, our dentists place dental implants. Together with a tooth replacement such as a crown or bridge, a dental implant looks and feels much like a natural tooth.
During a gum graft procedure, your dentist transplants tissue from the roof of your mouth to another area of the gums. A gum graft can repair receding gums, cover exposed tooth roots and reduce any associated symptoms such as severe tooth sensitivity or eventual tooth loss to protect your oral health.
A frenectomy procedure eliminates a frenum, a small piece of tissue connecting your cheeks, tongue or lips to your gum area. Though frenectomies are normally performed for babies, our dentists can also complete this procedure for children and adults in the frenum is restricting function (typically referred to as cheek-tied, tongue-tied or lip-tied). This simple surgical procedure is safe, fast-healing and usually does not require anesthesia.
Bone Grafts & Sinus Lifts
Patients who require dental implants sometimes do not have enough bone tissue in their jaw bone. To resolve this issue, your dentist will perform a bone graft, during which bone tissue is added to the jaw bone, strengthening it to support a dental implant. A sinus lift is a type of bone graft in which bone material is added to the upper back jaw to increase the amount of bone in the sinus area, so a dental implant can be placed.
